Hot Off the Press: Rats Fed GMO Corn Die Young

What happens when rats are fed a lifetime diet of Monsanto’s GMO corn, or exposed to Monsanto’s top-selling weedkiller, Roundup? It’s not pretty. Tumors. Kidney damage. Liver damage.

In a study released yesterday – the first-ever long-term study of its kind – French scientists reported that rats fed a diet containing the herbicide-tolerant GM maize, or given water containing Roundup in amounts considered safe in drinking water and GM crops in the US, died sooner than the rats fed just the standard diet.

The study was done by a reputable scientist, in this case a French physician, Gilles-Eric Seralini.

Will this be enough to make the FDA start conducting independent testing of GMO’s – before allowing these products into our food supply? Or will the FDA continue to pander to Monsanto and tell us that GMO products are ‘not substantially different’ than non-GMO products?

“The results of the study comes as California voters consider the Proposition 37 Right to Know initiative to label genetically engineered foods in the November elections. The initiative has two main provisions. The first requires “labeling on raw or processed food offered for sale to consumers if made from plants or animals with genetic material changed in specific ways.” The second bans foods from being labeled “natural” when they contain genetically-altered ingredients. Some exceptions will apply to certain foods such as, “certified organic; unintentionally produced with genetically engineered material; made from animals fed or injected with genetically engineered material but not genetically engineered themselves; processed with or containing only small amounts of genetically engineered ingredients; administered for treatment of medical conditions; sold for immediate consumption such as in a restaurant; or alcoholic beverages.”

The GMO labeling battle has only just begun

This is an update: Proposition 37 an attempt to force GMO food labeling failed at California ballot box on November 7^th election night vote by a slim margin. Even with this loss, the labeling battle has just begun according to Natural News. “Monsanto and other companies appear to have won this showdown in California, but they are going to lose the war of deception against consumers. As awareness of GMOs continues to spread, people will demand honest labeling in increasing numbers.”

The demand to know what is in your food, will not stop. The more people are aware of GMO’s the more questions company’s like Monsanto, Kellogg, General Mills, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and all the other corporations involved in creating GMO’s will have to answer. GMO’s should be banned in the United States they are being banned in other countries.
